Be Prepared

Application Checklist

When applying for affordable housing, applicants should be prepared to answer questions and provide documentation to support their eligibility. The following documents are helpful to have on hand:

  • Government-issued photo ID for all adult household members
  • Proof of income (recent pay stubs, tax returns, benefit or award letters)
  • Verification of household size and composition
  • Bank statements or proof of assets, if required
  • Note: Additional documentation may be required and varies by community and program

Having these materials ready can help the eligibility review and application process move forward more smoothly.

What to Expect

  • You submit an application to the property
  • If eligible, you are placed on a waiting list. If your mailing address or contact information changes, please contact the property as soon as possible to update your application.
  • Some communities may have long waiting lists and are not open to additional applicants, while others may have immediate availability

When an apartment becomes available and as your name reaches the top of the waiting list, you’ll be contacted to complete the full application and certification process. If you qualify and provide all required documentation, you may be offered an apartment.

Applicant Interview

An interview helps confirm that households meet program requirements. It’s simply a time to review information, answer questions, and make sure everything is in place.

During the interview, expect to:

  • Review income, assets, student status, household income and employment
  • Confirm household size
  • Collect required documentation
  • Walk through next steps together

Our goal is to make the process clear, respectful and supportive.

What Is Recertification?

Once you’re a resident, recertification of your household's income typically happens once a year. It’s a standard requirement of the program and helps ensure continued eligibility. While it may feel repetitive, recertification helps preserve affordable housing and allows residents to continue living in their home with confidence and stability.

What to Expect During Recertification

You’ll be asked to:

  • Update income and employment information
  • Provide current documents (such as pay stubs or benefit letters)
  • Let us know about any household changes
  • Confirm student status

Keeping information up to date helps avoid delays and keeps everything running smoothly.
